KP govt to provide free transportation to female students

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated to provide free transportation facilities for female students in remote districts in the province as part of its effort to stem the flow of girls dropping out of school, often due to the distance from home.

The program will cover districts such as Kohistan, Torghar, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Charsadda, Kohat and Bannu.

The government hopes to overcome transportation barriers to keep more female students in school, and Education Department has formally directed all district education officers to implement the scheme.

As the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government seeks to enhance education and women’s empowerment in the region, this is a continuation of the work which has been happenning particularly in disadvantaged communities by the province.

Earlier, the Elementary & Secondary Education Department under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established initiatives such as free education, uniforms, textbooks and transport facilities for the students of Working Folks Grammar Schools, which exhibited a commitment to encouraging education for all.
