KARACHI: The Sindh government today announced a public holiday on August 20 across the province to mark the Urs of Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.
A notification issued by the Sindh government stated that all offices, autonomous, and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils in Sindh will be closed except for essential services on Tuesday (August 20).
“The Government of Sindh declares 14th Safar 1446 (A.H) August 20, 2024 (Tuesday), as a Public Holiday throughout the Province of Sindh on the occasion of Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (R.A),” the notification added.
The urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, a famous Sufi poet and saint, begins every year on the 14th Safar (the second month of the Hijra calendar) and lasts for three days.
According to the details, the three-day ceremony of the urs will begin with poetry marathons, literature conferences, and other activities.
