KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday announced a public holiday in all public and private schools and colleges across the province on Friday, August 15, 2025, on account of Chehlum.

The notification issued by the School Education Department stated that “all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department shall remain closed on August 15.”

The school will remain closed in observance of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain RA (20th Safar 1447 AH).

The notification further added that the decision was taken in a meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Steering Committee on November 28, 2025.

The holiday will be observed a day after Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14, which will also be marked as a national holiday.

In addition to that, the Sindh government has already announced August 9 (Saturday) as a public holiday throughout the province on the occasion of the 282nd annual Urs of renowned Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Three-day Urs festivities will begin on Saturday in Bhit Sharif in Matiari District, said Sindh Secretary for Culture Muhammad Khan Kloro. He assured that everything is in place, with the majority of arrangements already finalized, to make the spiritual and cultural festival a success.
