Islamabad: The Sindh Government has officially announced a public holiday for all schools and colleges on February 26th, 2024, in honor of Shab-e-Barat.

The decision, made following a Steering Committee meeting, applies to both public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the College Education Department.

The notification issued by the Education Department confirms the closure of schools and colleges on Monday, February 26th, marking the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, which falls on the 15th of Shaban.

Shab-e-Barat, known as The Night of Fortune and Forgiveness, holds religious significance for Muslims in Pakistan and around the world. It precedes the Holy month of Ramadan and is observed with special prayers and acts of devotion. During this night, believers gather in mosques to offer nawafil (voluntary prayers) and seek blessings, unity, prosperity, security, and peace for the country and the Muslim Ummah as a whole.

Shab-e-Barat is considered a night of blessings and accountability, where it is believed that Allah makes judgments regarding the events of the upcoming year, including lives, deaths, bestowments, and blessings. The announcement of the public holiday by the Sindh Government reflects its commitment to accommodating religious observances and facilitating the participation of citizens in significant religious events.
