Islamabad: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has lifted the ban on new gas connections in several regions and initiated the installation of RLNG-based domestic gas connections.

This decision comes in light of the declining local gas reserves, prompting the need for alternative solutions.

SNGPL has commenced the provision of new gas connections in over 100 private housing societies, primarily focusing on RLNG-based installations. The gas company issued a notification titled “Provision of Gas Connections on RLNG Basis in Privately Developed Housing Schemes,” confirming the initiation of these installations.

Responding to the long-standing demand for new connections, SNGPL is now facilitating RLNG-based gas connections based on pending lists generated through IT systems in private housing societies. Over 100 private housing societies with RLNG networks will receive new connections in phases.

These new connections will be extended to extensions or blocks of existing housing societies already supplied with RLNG, in accordance with the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) policy. RLNG connections will only be provided to housing societies, phases, or blocks that have not yet received regular gas connections.

The installation work for these connections has been underway, following approval from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). RLNG-based connections will be provided on an individual meter basis, adhering to relevant terms and conditions.

Top officials at SNGPL have directed all concerned departments to arrange and allocate resources, meters, and service line materials for the resumption of domestic gas connections. This decision to resume new connections was made by the Apex Committee of SIFC.

The outgoing government has taken a significant step by approving a policy to provide Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) to new domestic consumers and private housing societies.
