LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company, LESCO, has made it mandatory to install its own transformer on systems above 14 kW under the new solar policy.
According to details, Lahore Electric Supply Company has introduced new rules and regulations for consumers installing solar systems under net metering.
The new policy aims to regulate high-load solar systems and reduce the burden on the electricity transmission system.
LESCO’s new instructions said that consumers who want to install a solar system of up to 14 kW will be able to install their system according to the old procedure.
The company said that consumers who want to install a solar system with a capacity of more than 14 kW will now have to purchase and install their own transformer; they will not be allowed to use net metering.
Under the policy, a 5-year agreement will be signed between LESCO and the consumer, under which the consumer will be allowed to generate electricity for the said period and add it to the grid.
For the convenience and transparency of the consumers, the entire process has been digitized, and applications can be submitted completely online only by authorized companies.
After the approval of the application, a generation license will be issued by NEPRA.
In the final stage, LESCO will connect the system to the grid.
LESCO officials say that this move will not only make the licensing process easier for large-scale electricity generators, but will also enable better monitoring of the system on technical grounds.
