Speaker NA Ayaz Sadiq demands immediate release of PTI MNAs

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq expressed irked over yesterday night’s raids by Islamabad police arresting several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs and leaders .

Taking notice of the matter, the Speaker National Assembly in telephonic converstion with Islamabad IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi demanded the release of all PTI lawmakers arrested from Parliament premises on Monday night.

“No member of the parliament can be arrested from the Parliament House or its lodges. These parliamentarians should be released immediately,” said the speaker.

The speaker has directed the police officials to provide immediate details regarding the arrests made, individuals currently in custody.

He called IG Islamabad during the meeting with leadership of all poltical parties in his chamber, gathering to discuss the last night chase of PTI leaders in National Assembly premsises.

Earlier during the NA session, the speaker maintained he won’t remain silent on arrests of lawmakers and will action. “Whatever happened in the Parliament will have to be protested. I have called the CCTV footage from all the gates of the parliament,” he said, summoning the leadership of all political parties in the chamber.

Ayaz Sadiq’s action comes followed by a fiery speech of PTI MNA Ali Muhammad Khan on the floor of the house today. PTI leader, in his speech, strongly protested the arrest of its fellow NA members in a very ill manner. He said Aamir Dogar, Sheikh Waqas, Maulana Naseem, Sher Afzal Marwat and Jamshed Dasti — all were cahsed by Islamabad police in the Parliament last night.

“Impose Article 6 on those who stormed the Parliament last night,” Khan said, adding that the episode will be remembered as a “dark chapter in the democratic history of Pakistan”.
