ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan(SCP) has upheld its decision to close Monal Restaurant and other establishments within the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP).
The court rejected petitions filed by the Monal Group of Companies, La Montana, and Sunshine Heights, seeking to revisit the June 11 order that declared all leases and allotments within the park illegal.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, decided after hearing the petitions. The court had previously ordered the closure of these establishments, citing violations of the Islamabad Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Ordinance 1979.
In a related development, the Supreme Court issued a contempt notice to Malik Luqman Ali Afzal, owner of Monal Restaurant, on August 15 for failing to comply with the court’s order.
During a hearing, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa criticized Afzal for “propaganda” against the court on TV and suggested he should provide jobs to his staff at his other restaurants.
The decision paves the way for the closure of Monal Restaurant and other affected establishments within the Margalla Hills National Park.
