ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s women’s athlete Tameen Khan has been ruled out of the forthcoming World Athletics Championship 2025 in Tokyo after an injury.

As reported by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), Tameen was to participate in the women’s 100-metre sprint race later this month.

The federation had especially arranged her entry into the high-profile global competition, which was a breakthrough for Pakistan in women’s athletics.

But three days before the competition, Tameen injured herself during training.

After undergoing medical tests, including MRI scans, the physicians recommended that she take a minimum of two weeks off from all activity.

“Tameen Khan was training for the World Championship, but unfortunately, the injury has kept her out,” AFP officials confirmed.

They emphasized that the federation will provide her with the proper rehabilitation so she can get back to competing as soon as possible.

The loss is a setback for Pakistan’s athletics delegation, as Tameen’s presence was regarded as a landmark moment for women’s sprinters from the nation.

Her withdrawal means Pakistan will have but a single athlete in the international event — star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who will now bear the country’s lone hopes at the championship.
