ISLAMABAD: Just 24 hours after a major earthquake, another earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday morning.

Data shared by local authorities showed that the latest quake struck at 12:10 am, with its epicentre 15 km southeast of Rawat at a shallow depth of 10 km. Strong tremors were felt in the twin cities including Murree and Chakwal.

The quake was reported shortly after a 5.4 magnitude quake struck the affected area. The previous quake, which struck at a depth of about 100 km in the Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan, had tremors felt in several districts.

People should be cautious as these back-to-back earthquakes highlight the region’s seismic vulnerability. Despite the strong tremors, no casualties or major damage have been reported from any of the quakes so far.
