UN raises alarm over HRDs crackdown in Balochistan

NEW YORK: During her visit to Lahore for #AJCONF2026, Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, shared that her senior advisor, Ed O Donovan, met with Sami Baluch to discuss the ongoing challenges faced by human rights defenders (HRDs) in Balochistan.

As per the details, the meeting focused on the multiple difficulties encountered by HRDs in the region amid an ongoing crackdown and stay restrictions. Lawlor’s office emphasized the importance of protecting HRDs and ensuring their safety while carrying out their work.

The UN Special Rapporteur also called on the Government of Pakistan to take urgent measures to address these concerns and safeguard human rights in Balochistan.
