Rawalpindi: The election tribunal, led by Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz at the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court, has reserved its decision on an appeal against the rejection of nomination papers submitted by former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for NA-89 constituency. The verdict is scheduled to be announced on January 10. Barrister Ali Zafar, representing Imran Khan, argued that the returning officer did not have the authority to reject the nomination papers under Article 63(1)(h) and emphasized that Imran Khan’s suspended sentence in the Toshakhana case did not warrant disqualification. The tribunal’s decision is keenly awaited as the election season intensifies.
