Wadera Noor Ali Chakrani and 100 former militants mainstreamed in Dera Bugti
DERA BUGTI: In a significant development for security and stability in Balochistan, senior BRA (Brahumdagh Bugti faction) commander Wadera Noor Ali Chakrani, along with more than 100 former militants, surrendered their arms and pledged loyalty to Pakistan during a ceremony held at Pakistan House, Sui.
The event took place in the presence of Mir Aftab Bugti, marking what officials describe as a turning point in Dera Bugti’s peace and reconciliation process.
Authorities note that the Chakrani tribe, one of Dera Bugti’s prominent tribes, holds considerable influence in the region. Their mainstreaming is being viewed as a significant operational and psychological setback for the BRA, limiting its recruitment potential and its ability to conduct violent activities.
Given Dera Bugti and Sui’s strategic importance as historic energy hubs, the development is also expected to contribute to national energy security and regional economic stability.
Officials state that the collective surrender reflects a broader rejection of violence and the “resistance” narrative promoted by anti-state groups.
The move indicates growing public alignment with state-led development and security initiatives, as well as diminishing influence of external elements long accused of exploiting local grievances.
Security officials interpret the surrender as a message to hostile forces allegedly involved in destabilizing Balochistan. They assert that the return of more than 100 individuals signals the weakening of external support networks and a refusal by local communities to be used for regional geopolitical agendas.
The development is consistent with earlier reconciliation successes involving key militant commanders, including Sarfraz Bangulzai (UBA) and Gulzar Imam Shambay (BNA).
Officials emphasize that past reintegration cases have underscored how returned militants publicly revealed exploitation by foreign handlers and expressed willingness to rejoin mainstream society.
Authorities reaffirmed Pakistan’s policy of providing opportunities for individuals misled into militancy to reintegrate peacefully. The policy differentiates between reconcilable individuals and hardened actors involved in foreign-sponsored violence, offering a path back to normal life for those who choose peace.
Government representatives highlight that this moment offers an opportunity to roll out a comprehensive reintegration package for the Chakrani tribe. Proposed initiatives include employment opportunities, improved healthcare and education, skills training for youth, women’s empowerment programs, and support for small businesses and agriculture.
Officials described the surrender as a sign of growing trust between the people of Dera Bugti and the State. They expressed hope that the move would encourage others still engaged in militancy to abandon violence, return to their families, and participate in development activities shaping Balochistan’s future.
In a concluding message, the authorities urged those still fighting to abandon externally driven agendas and return home. “Peace, education, and opportunity await those who choose dialogue over conflict,” officials stated.
