KARACHI: Karachi will experience a daily water deficit of 200 million gallons for four consecutive days because the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) will begin emergency repairs on an 84-inch diameter main water pipeline, which will start on Monday at noon.
The Phase-I main line in Block 19 of Gulshan-i-Iqbal showed evidence of a leak. KWSC officials mentioned that they will need to complete the repair work within 96 hours, which begins at 12 pm Monday, to restore the damaged area and achieve system stability.
The K-4 water augmentation project, which ranks as a high-priority project, includes the damaged pipeline that runs through University Road near Block 19.
Authorities announced that maintenance work must be conducted to secure a constant supply during the Ramadan period. A KWSC spokesperson announced that technical specialists will oversee the repair work for its quick completion.
The project requires 60 hours for completion, but workers extended the deadline to four days because they need time to address unexpected problems.
The Dhabeji Pumping Station will experience a temporary decrease in water supply because of the ongoing repair work. The other pumping stations will maintain their regular operations.
The city will receive 450 million gallons of water during repairs instead of its usual 650 million gallons, which it receives every day. The following areas will experience water shortages: Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Jinnah, Chanesar, Saddar, Lyari, and Clifton.
The utility announced that Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will stay closed until the maintenance process is completed. KWSC has advised residents in affected areas to store water in advance and use it carefully until normal supply resumes.
