PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has ordered the closure of all schools in the province’s upper district for one week following the torrential rains and flash floods.
According to an official notification, educational institutions in flood and rain-hit areas (Swat, Buner) will remain shut until August 25 as a precautionary measure to safeguard students and staff.
The move comes after continuous downpours triggered flash floods, causing severe damage to the infrastructure and disrupting daily life in several parts of KPK.
Moreover, the Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a notification for the closure of higher educational institutions in rain-affected areas.
Higher educational institutions will remain closed from August 19 to 25.
The Higher Education Department has said in its notification that universities and colleges should continue the teaching and learning process online.
Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi says that plans have been made to provide relief in the form of higher education in the affected areas, and students will not be left without convenience and facilities due to the floods.
Earlier, 341 people lost their lives due to the flood disasters, including 222 people from Buner, according to Director Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Amjad Khan.
