KARACHI: The Sindh government has also announced an exciting and ambitious program that will entail the installation of 500,000 solar systems in the province, starting later in the year.

Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, at the inauguration of the electricity supply in Abdullah Rind Goth, Manghopir Town, where, for the very first time, electricity was provided by K-Electric to over 450 households, emphasized that provision of necessary services, primarily electricity, to all regions, is key to the vision of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The minister stated that the distribution of 2 lakh solar systems has begun, and the distribution of 5 lakh solar systems will begin later this year.

These solar systems will be distributed to areas that have never had grid electricity supplied. This is a big step towards the use of renewable energy sources and reducing reliance on traditional supplies of energy.

Plans to set up a Solar Park are underway, and there are plans to introduce technical training for local youth on possibilities for jobs in the energy sector. The government is also trying to regularize villages and provide property rights to women but underlined that all households receiving electricity remained the priority.

The initiative is a landmark beginning towards the development and progress in the said region, and it is thus good to see that the Sindh government is serious about taking measures for renewable energy promotion and the welfare of its citizens.

Besides, this announcement would also go along with all other efforts being collectively made to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development as outlined in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

With a distribution of solar systems, the government intends to provide energy in such a way that it would be cheaper for low-income households and reduce dependence for on costly and unsustainable forms of energy.
