Zil Hajj moon not sighted in Pakistan; Eidul Azha to be observed on June 7

ISLAMABAD: Eid-ul-Adha 2025, the crescent for the month of Zil Hajj was not sighted in Pakistan on Tuesday, as the last month of the lunar Islamic calendar will start from Thursday, May 29, 2025.

This means Eid al-Azha will fall on June 7, when believers will celebrate the auspicious occasion by offering sacrifices on that day.

The formal announcement was made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad after the meeting to sight the moon of Zil Hajj was concluded with no evidence of the moon sighting recorded across the country. The members of SUPARCO, the Navy and the Chief Meteorologist are attending the meeting.

Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees also held meetings in their respective zones.

According to Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the national space agency of Pakistan, the chances of moon sighting are rare, as on May 27, the age of the new moon will be 11 hours, which is impossible to be sighted.

SUPARCO experts claim that the moon of is likely to be sighted tomorrow, and the first date of Zilhajj will start on May 29 and Eid al-Azha will be celebrated on June 7.
