KARACHI: Following the tragic death of actress Humaira Asghar, her parents have broken their silence, raising doubts about the nature of her death and countering claims that they had denied it.
In interviews with local television channels, Humaira’s father Dr. Asghar and her mother dismissed media speculation that they had killed their daughter. They also dismissed suggestions that she was facing financial difficulties at the time of her demise.
Dr. Asghar said, “It is wrong that we refused to take her body. I had sent my son to Karachi to receive him after the legal proceedings were completed.” “We were informed by the police after the relatives contacted us. Since the post-mortem and procedural work were yet to be completed, we had to wait.”
Humaira Asghar’s body was found on July 8, 2025, in a storeroom of her rented apartment, where she had reportedly been living alone since 2018. The flat was located in DHA Phase IV. Initial autopsy results showed that the body was about 10 months old, suggesting that she died in early October 2024.
Her death sparked intense speculation in the media, especially over the cause of death and her family’s alleged refusal to claim her body. Her father has now said that he suspects foul play.
“I haven’t been to Karachi myself, but I felt that something terrible had happened to my daughter. Her body was lying face down, and the condition of the flat’s doors looked suspicious.” “Whoever harmed her should not fear God.”
Despite their grief, Humaira’s parents appreciated the role of Sindh Police in handling the case, saying that the officers were fulfilling their responsibilities.
Rejecting the claim that the actress had fallen on hard times, Dr. Asghar said, “She was a good earner and financially stable. In fact, we found expensive clothes in her room that she never wore. If she had missed paying rent or utilities, it could have happened only after her death.”
He added that Humaira was deeply invested in her work and took care of poor children. “She never asked for her share of the family property. She was not the type to say such a small thing,” he said.
Humaira’s mother, who also spoke to the media, narrated her last conversation with her daughter, which took place in late August 2024.
“She said her mobile SIMs were being blocked and she was being harassed. But she didn’t go into details,” the mother said. “After that, her phone went dead, I kept trying, but I had no one in Karachi to contact.”
She added that she initially assumed her daughter had travelled abroad, possibly to Turkey, and was waiting to hear from her. “I had a strange feeling in my heart before the news broke, a kind of unease. And then, suddenly, I saw her on television, I was shocked.”
According to the family, Humaira pursued her artistic ambitions with the full consent of her parents. “She was always inclined towards the arts. She studied at the NCA and later entered the entertainment industry. I supported her decision,” her father said.
The parents also denied media rumors that differences had developed between them and their daughter, saying that she visits the family every two months and remains in close contact.
