Musician Haniya Aslam of ‘Zeb and Haniya’ passes away

KARACHI: Pakistani talented musician and part of the beloved ‘Zeb and Haniya’, Haniya Aslam, has passed away reportedly after a cardiac arrest on Sunday, August 11.

Female pop music sensation, her cousin, and band member, Zeb Bangash, confirmed the news in a post on Instagram with a heartbreaking post. In a post shared on Monday morning, Zeb shared a few old pictures of ‘Dobara Phir Se’ singer, Haniya, and wrote “Hanini” in the caption.

Many fellow artists and the music industry confirming the news, expressed sadness over the heartbreaking loss of Coke Studio fame singer and composer.

Fans and artists from the entertainment industry flocked to the comments section of Zeb Bangash’s post to offer their condolences to the Aja Re Moray Saiyaan singer and their family.

Black Box Sounds, an Islamabad-based entertainment studio, shared a video of Chal Diye singer performing live on their set with a caption, ‘RIP Haniya Aslam’.The Instagram post further wrote, “Your sudden passing last night has left us heartbroken. Your music will continue to live in our hearts and memories. May your soul find eternal peace. This was the last performance she made at Black Box Sounds.”

Junoon guitarist, Salman Ahmad wrote very sad news of the tragic passing of the very young and full of creative talent, Haniya Aslam. “Inna lillah hai wainna alaihay rajeoon,” he wrote on X.

The musician’s sudden death not only shocked fans, and her fellow artists in Pakistan fans but also across the border.

Host and singer Dino Ali added, “She was always so sweet and a brilliant talent — I’m so sorry for your loss and pray that Allah Pak gives you and the family patience during this difficult time.” He wrote on his stories, “I am shocked and saddened by the passing of Haniya Aslam. You were always so sweet and such a warm person and an incredible talent.”

Taking on X, Swanand Kirkire, Indian playback singer and director, mourns the loss of his “dear friend”. “My dear friend Haniya Aslam ( from Zeb and Haniya ) has left us. She had a cardiac arrest. Rest in peace, dear Haniya,” the musician wrote.

Fasi Zaka — a Pakistani commentator, and columnist — also expressed his condolence at the loss of Zeb and Haniyah singer on X. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Haniya Aslam passes away. What a talented musician and kind soul. May she Rest in Peace. Truly saddening.

Kohat-born Haniya is considered one of the best musicians in Pakistan’s music industry with her melodious compositions alongside Zeb Bangash in their iconic music duo Zeb and Haniya. The female pop duo became popular for their Coke Studio Pakistan tracks, ‘Paimona’, ‘Chal Diye’, ‘Chup’,  ‘Laili Jaan’, and ‘Kya Khayal Hai’.

Talented Haniya Aslam also produced music for the Pakistani 2016 romantic-drama film, ‘Dobara Phir Se’, and sung ‘Mann Ke Jahan’ for the 2015 Pakistani musical drama film ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’.
