Revised gas supply timetable announced for Quetta
KARACHI: Gas supply to various areas in Sindh and Balochistan will be disrupted due to a gas leak in a feeder line from the Gambat Gas Field that supplies the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
SSGC reported a gas shortage of 38 mmcfd due to the leak. A team from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has begun repairs, which are expected to take about 20 hours to complete.
As a result, some regions in Sindh and Balochistan will experience low gas pressure. SSGC has apologized for the inconvenience.
Current industrial demand is around 130-140 mmscfd (million standard cubic feet per day), with future demand projected to be 80-100 mmscfd.
Earlier, on August 6 a significant oil and gas reserve was discovered in Kohat’s Tal Block district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The Razgir-1 formation has shown promising deposits that could enhance Pakistan’s energy resources.
The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced that the well is currently producing around 159 barrels of oil and 16.4 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
This discovery, a joint effort by OGDCL, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), will see drilling operations begin in January 2024.
Last month, SSGC invested Rs3.86 billion in a new pipeline project to supply high-pressure gas to industrial customers in western Karachi.
The initiative aimed to resolve low-pressure issues affecting industrial users in the area. The project involved the installation of a 31-kilometer, 24-inch diameter pipeline from MVA ACPL to SMS Surjani, effectively addressing supply problems.
SSGC Managing Director Imran Maniar inaugurated the pipeline, which will separate high-pressure industrial consumers in the SITE and Hub Industrial Areas from low-pressure domestic and commercial users.
The new pipeline is expected to fulfill around 269 mmscfd of demand.
