Veteran Pakistani drama writer Seema Ghazal has stirred discussion online after expressing her views on second marriages and polygamy during a recent interview, where she also referred to television personality Iqrar ul Hassan.

Speaking on Mustafa Habib Siddiqui’s YouTube podcast MHS Speaks, the acclaimed screenwriter shared her personal opinion on men entering multiple marriages. Ghazal, known for writing hundreds of television dramas over the years, clarified that while she has explored the subject in her scripts, her personal stance is different.

She explained that one of her dramas featured a second marriage because the storyline justified the decision through troubled circumstances within the relationship. However, she emphasized that she does not support men choosing another marriage when they already have a caring and supportive spouse.

During the conversation, Ghazal also criticized what she described as publicly celebrating multiple marriages. Referring to Iqrar ul Hassan, she alleged that she disapproves of relationships that begin while a person is already married, adding that loyalty and commitment should remain central to any relationship.

The veteran writer also shared her understanding of the Islamic context surrounding polygamy. According to her interpretation, the permission was linked to historical circumstances when wars resulted in a significant imbalance between the number of men and women. She argued that those conditions were unique to that period and should be viewed within their historical context.

Her remarks have since generated widespread reactions across social media, with users debating both her opinions and the broader issue of multiple marriages.
