ISLAMABAD: South Asian Javelin throw maestros Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra are expected to compete in India later this year, Indian media reported.
According to the details, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced plans to host a high-profile international javelin competition in September 2025 in which top athletes from around the world will feature including Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem.
“A top-tier javelin competition featuring the world’s top 10 javelin throwers will be held later this year,” Sumariwalla said during the AFI Annual General Meeting (AGM), where his 12-year tenure as president officially ended.
Furthermore, he added, “Neeraj Chopra is part of the organizing team, working alongside JSW, a foreign firm, and the AFI to create this competition.”
However, the recent stand-off between both countries over the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 can affect Nadeem’s participation in the tournament as both nations avoid visiting each other.
The aforementioned event is part of India’s bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, the 2027 World Relays, and the 2028 World Junior Championships.
In the latest clash between Chopra and Nadeem at the Paris Olympics, the latter bagged a gold medal and an Olympic record with a whopping 92.97m throw, while Neeraj earned the silver medal with an 89.45m throw.
