ISLAMABAD: Cricket Australia has announced a robust 15-member initial squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, bolstered by the inclusion of two traveling reserves, Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk, here on Tuesday.
Mitchell Marsh will be the captain of the Australian team, while key players such as Ashton Agar, Peter Handscomb, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, and Adam Zampa will add depth and experience to the squad.
Australia’s campaign in the T20 World Cup kicks off with a highly anticipated clash against Oman in Barbados on June 5.
The group stage promises intense competition, with England, Namibia, Oman, and Scotland also vying for top honors alongside the Aussies.
Adding to the depth of the squad are the reserve players, Jack Fraser McGurk, Ben McDermott, and Matthew Short, who are ready to join the team if needed.
Although the squad is strong, the teams have until May 25 to make the final adjustment, subject to the approval of the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
In the World Cup format, 20 qualifying teams have been divided into groups, due to which fans are waiting for action-packed cricket matches.
