Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell retires from ODI cricket

SYDENY: Australian All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has officially announced his retirement from the One-day International format on Monday.

The Star cricketer will continue to represent the Australian side in the T20I format as he gears up for the T20I World Cup scheduled in India and Srilanka.

He has represented the Akngroos in 149 ODIs after making his debut in 2012 against Afghanistan. he has scored 3,990 runs with a strike rate of 126.70 and with an average of 33.81.

His bowling career includes 77 wickets and 91 catches as a fielder in the ODI format of Cricket.

“I felt like I was letting the team down a little bit with how the body was reacting. I had a good chat with George Bailey and told him I didn’t see myself making it to the 2027 World Cup. It’s time for someone else to make that position their own.” Maxwell said on the Final Word Podcast.

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg paid homage to Maxwell, describing him as “one of the most exciting and influential ODI players in history. “Glenn’s ballistic batting lit up stadiums and inspired a generation,” he stated.

George Bailey, Chair of Selectors, said that “Glenn will be remembered as one of the game’s most dynamic players.” His innate skill, intensity on the field, and enthusiasm for Australia have been outstanding.”
