MELBOURNE: In another feather in his cap, Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam’s bat has been displayed at iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground’s (MCG) Long Room.

The prestigious long room at Australia’s MCG holds the bats of icon cricketers, Don Bradman, David Boon, Jack Hobbs, and Brian Lara.

The MCG management extended an invitation to Pakistan’s former captain to contribute his bat used during Pakistan’s 2022 T20 World Cup final against England, which Azam accepted.

The ace batter who is currently present in Australia for an ODI and T20I series expressed honor to be present among the greatest cricketers at iconic MCG.

Taking on X, he wrote, “Honored to have my bat among the legends at the MCG Long Room.” The MCG responded, “The honor is all ours. Thank you, Babar Azam.”

After donating his bat on Friday, Azam said, honestly, it means a lot to me because I played a World Cup final using this bat. “I have many good memories here at the MCG […] it is one of the best grounds of my career. Having my bat placed here alongside those of great players is truly a privilege,” he added.

Notably, Babar recently stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball captain and was replaced by Mohammad Rizwan. He was also dropped from Pakistan’s squad for the remaining two Tests of the three-match series against England.
