GALLE: Bangladesh’s veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim broke former Pakistan captain Younis Khan’s Test record by becoming the oldest batter to score a century in Srilanka.

Mushfiqur Rahim set a new record during the first Test match against hosts Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium.

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim scored his 12th Test century, making him the oldest player, other than an opener, to score a century in a Test on Sri Lankan soil.

He broke the record of Pakistan’s Younis Khan, who scored a Test century against the host team in Sri Lanka in 2015 at the age of 37 years and 216 days.

Mushfiqur scored a Test century in Sri Lanka at the age of 38 years and 39 days.

However, Bangladesh scored 484 runs for 9 wickets at the end of the second day of play against the host team in the Galle Test.

Mushfiqur Rahim played an innings of 163 runs, while captain Najm Al-Hussain scored 148, and Liton Das scored 90 runs.
