ISLAMABAD: Following complaints from local residents, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a clarification regarding the use of a public playground in F-11/1 near Ali Market.

The space originally permitted for cricket was re-examined after residents reported damage to property, excessive noise and disruption to daily life caused by cricket balls.

In a news release on Friday, the authority said that a complete ban on cricket has not been imposed. It has designated the area as a multi-purpose ground to meet the needs of the wider community.

To accommodate cricket enthusiasts, the CDA has proposed to develop an indoor cricket facility.

Additionally, two existing cricket grounds in F-11 — near Tehzeeb Bakers and Khaddad Heights — are open for use.
In a separate development, a disciplinary investigation revealed that a CDA employee allegedly misused the ground for personal gain in collusion with Rawalpindi cricketers, including for illegal activities like gambling and betting.
The employee has been suspended, and an FIR is being registered against those involved. The CDA reiterated its commitment to fair resolution of disputes and ensuring public spaces serve the interest of the wider community.
The CDA said that two nearby playgrounds are fully functional for public use.
