Champions Trophy 2025 opening ceremony held in Lahore

LAHORE: The inaugural ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy was held in Lahore, attended by national and international cricketers including ICC CEO Jeff Allardyce.

The event was reportedly held at the historic Shahi Qila Ground, with Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan among the distinguished guests.

PCB Chairman Amir Mir’s advisor and former cricketer Wahab Riaz was also present, along with members of Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy-winning squad, Sarfraz Ahmed, Junaid Khan, Hasan Ali, Azhar Ali, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, and Haris Sohail. Former South African batsman JP Duminy and New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee were also present.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and ICC CEO Jeff Allardyce welcomed the guests at the event.

Speaking at the event, Naqvi highlighted that the Gaddafi Stadium is fully prepared for the tournament and termed it a historic moment for Pakistan.

Expressing his excitement for the tournament, Allardyce said that Pakistan has a golden opportunity to showcase its cricketing spirit. He recalled Pakistan’s victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy final at The Oval.

He also praised the rapid renovation of the Gaddafi Stadium and the National Stadium in Karachi and said that fans can expect thrilling cricket in the coming weeks.
