Former Pakistan test cricketer Wazir Mohammad passes away

LAHORE: In tragic news, Wazir Mohammad, a former Test cricketer from Pakistan, died aged 95 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

He was the elder sibling of Pakistan cricket icon Hanif Mohammad and one of the main players from the nation’s golden era of cricket.

Wazir Mohammad represented Pakistan in 20 Test matches with a total of 801 runs under his belt, thanks to his firm batting style and reliable temperament. He was one of the pioneers of the first generation of Pakistani cricketers who established the national side’s position in the world sphere in the 1950s and 60s.

Tributes of the cricket fraternity

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi condoled his death with a deep sense of sadness, lauding Wazir Mohammad’s entire life’s work for the sport.

“Wazir Mohammad’s services to cricket will be remembered forever,” condoled Mohsin Naqvi in his message.

The PCB and cricket family throughout Pakistan condoled the demise of the bereaved family, hailing Wazir’s achievements as part of the legendary Mohammad brothers who founded the cornerstone of Pakistan cricket.
