NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the withdrawal of the Indian Cricket Team from the Asia Cup 2025, citing political reasons, according to media reports.

Asian Cricket Council (ACC), currently presided over by Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi, received verbal communication from the BCCI, citing the current political climate as the primary reason for the pullout.

BCCI has also pulled out its Women’s Emerging Teams from the Asia Cup set to play in Sri Lanka next Month.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and defending champions India were set to feature in the Asia Cup 2025. It was set to be played in the T20 format in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

“Team India can’t compete in a tournament that is organised by the ACC, whose head is a Pakistani minister. We have to respect the sentiments of our people. We have verbally communicated to the ACC about our decision to pull out from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup and other events. We are talking to the Indian government,” said the Indian Express, quoting a BCCI official.

Notably, India also halted the broadcasting of the Pakistan Super League edition 10 in India after the tension rises between Pakistan and India.
