KOLKATA: India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been admitted to the hospital due to an injury during the match.

India has suffered a major setback in the ongoing first Test match against South Africa.

Captain Shubman Gill may be out for the rest of the match due to a neck injury.

According to Indian media reports, Shubman Gill left the field on the second day of the match being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata after scoring just 4 runs and was immediately shifted to the hospital.

The Indian captain suffered this injury while trying to play a sweep shot off the ball of South African spinner Simon Harmer, which resulted in a severe strain on his neck. During first aid in the dressing room, he was put on a collar around his neck.

According to Indian media,  Gill felt pain in his neck and restricted movement after batting, due to which the situation became critical. Later on Saturday evening, he was seen going to the hospital in a cervical collar.

It is being reported that Gill is currently admitted to the ICU and will remain under the supervision of doctors for the time being.

Further tests will be conducted to determine the severity of the cricketer’s injury, after which a decision will be made regarding treatment and availability.
