TEHRAN: Iran confirmed its participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026, saying that the team will definitely participate in the tournament. However, the host countries Mexico, the United States and Canada will have to address Iran’s reservations.

According to a foreign news agency, the Iran Football Federation has said that concerns about Iran’s participation had arisen due to the tense situation in the Middle East and recent political conflicts. However, now the final decision has been made that the Iranian team will participate in the World Cup.

Iranian Football Federation President Mehdi Taj said that Iran has set 10 conditions for the host countries. These include issuing visas to players and officials without hindrance, respecting the national flag and anthem, and providing complete security to the team.

He said that Iran has specifically sought assurances that there will be no visa problems for those players who have been associated with the Revolutionary Guards in the past, including Mehdi Tarimi.

FIFA President Infantino has already made it clear that Iran’s matches in the United States will go ahead as scheduled. Iran has been placed in Group G with New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt. The team will play its first match on June 15 in Los Angeles.
