NEW YORK: After Argentina’s defeat by Spain in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026, an emotional scene was witnessed that left football fans around the world sad.

Argentina’s captain and world-renowned footballer Lionel Messi could not control his emotions while receiving the silver medal and tears flowed from his eyes. The video of this moment quickly went viral on social media, where millions of fans expressed sympathy and love for their favorite player.

During the medal distribution ceremony, cameras captured Messi in a state of shock. Although his team could not win the world title, thousands of Argentine fans present in the stadium stood up and paid a great tribute to their captain. The continuous applause and slogans from the fans were proof that despite the defeat, Messi’s services and greatness did not diminish.

This World Cup is considered to be the last World Cup of Messi’s career, as he will be 43 years old by the next FIFA World Cup in 2030. For this reason, the 2026 tournament was considered his last real chance to win the world title, due to which the defeat in the final proved to be extremely painful for him.

During the tournament, Lionel Messi once again demonstrated a brilliant game and crossed several historical milestones, he scored a total of 8 goals and was prominent in the race for the Golden Boot, however, France’s Kylian Mbappe won this honor by scoring 10 goals.
