PAK vs NZ Series: Rizwan breaks Virat Kohli, Babar Azam’s record

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan clinched another feat by scoring the fastest 3,000 runs in the T20 International cricket during the second T20 game against New Zealand in Rawalpinid.

In his 79th T20I inning played on Saturday, Rizwan surpassed Virat Kohli and Babar Azam’s records to amass 3000 T20I runs, both of whom reached the milestone in 81 innings.

Achieving this milestone, the wicketkeeper-batsman also became just the second Pakistani to reach the 3000-run mark in T20Is as only Babar (3,712) has accumulated more runs for Pakistan.

During the second match of the five-match T20I series, the 31-year-old played an unbeaten 45 runs from 34 balls while guiding Pakistan to easily chase a 91-run target set by the Kiwis.

Earlier, Pakistan’s pace attack wreaked havoc as they defeated New Zealand by seven wickets at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Pakistan’s bowling remained on point as the Green Shirts bowled out New Zealand for just 90 runs.

Muhammad Rizwan was the top scorer with 45 runs. Pakistan faced an early setback as Saim Ayub and captain Babar Azam returned with 4 and 14 runs respectively.

Usman Khan also failed to score big as Ish Sodhi cleaned him on 7 runs. However, with confidence 18* runs innings from debutant Irfan Khan Niazi led Pakistan to a resounding seven-run victory.
