Pakistan beats Sri Lanka to stay in Asia Cup final race

ABU DHABI: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup T20 tournament and gained 2 important points.

Pakistan achieved Sri Lanka’s target of 134 runs in 18 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced each other in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup today in Abu Dhabi. Where Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first.

Pakistan made no changes to its team for today’s match. Only the players who played the match against India were part of the playing eleven.

Sri Lanka scored 133 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Kamindu Mendis stood out by scoring 50 runs.

Sri Lanka’s innings

Pakistan made a brilliant start and dismissed half of the Sri Lankan team for 58 runs. In such a situation, Kamindu Mendis batted responsibly and scored 50 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Pathan Nishanka scored 8, Kaushal Mendis 0, Perera 15, Asalanka 20, Hasaranka 15 were out while Karunaratne was not out with 17 runs.

Thus, Sri Lanka scored 133 runs against Pakistan for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi took 3 wickets, Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat took 2 wickets each. Abrar Ahmed dismissed one player.

Pakistan’s innings

In pursuit of the target, the Green Shirts faced difficulties initially, 5 players returned to the pavilion with a combined score of 80 runs.

Sahibzada Farhan 24, Fakhar Zaman 47, Saim Ayub 2 and captain Salman Ali Agha 5 runs, Muhammad Haris was out for 13 runs.

In such a situation, Muhammad Nawaz and Hussain Talat batted responsibly and gave Pakistan an important win and kept their hopes of reaching the final alive.

Muhammad Nawaz played an unbeaten innings of 38 and Hussain Talat 32 runs to give Pakistan the win.

The top 2 teams of the Super 4 stage have to qualify for the final. Each team has to play 3 matches.

Looking at the points table, India is in first place with 2 points after playing one match, while Bangladesh is in second position with 2 points after winning one match.

Pakistan is in third place with 2 points after winning one of the 2 matches, while Sri Lanka is in last position after losing 2 consecutive matches.
