ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has officially increased cash prizes for athletes who win medals in international competitions.
The decision was approved during the 34th board meeting, resulting in a revised cash award policy that significantly increases prizes at major sporting events.
Under the new guidelines, Olympic gold medalists will now receive Rs30 million from Rs10 million. Silver medalists at the Olympics will get Rs20 million compared to the previous Rs7.5 million, while bronze medalists will get Rs10 million instead of Rs5 million.
The gold medal prize for the Asian Games has been doubled from Rs7.5 million to Rs15 million. Silver medalists will earn Rs7 million and bronze medalists Rs5 million.
Gold medallists at the Commonwealth Games will receive Rs 75 lakh, up from Rs 50 lakh. Silver medallists will be awarded Rs 50 lakh and bronze medallists Rs 30 lakh.
The updated policy also introduces separate award categories for World Championships, Asian Championships, Commonwealth events, and junior-level competitions.
Gold winners at the World Championships, held every four years, will be awarded Rs 75 lakh.
Cash prizes for Commonwealth and junior-level competitions are as per the championship standards.
Separate structures have been established for snooker and squash. Under the new policy, the snooker world champion will receive Rs 15 lakh while the winner of the Asian Snooker Championship will be awarded Rs 750,000.
In squash, the champions of the British Open or its equivalent competitions will receive Rs 10 million and the winners of the Junior Squash Championship will receive Rs 5 million.
The aim of this enhanced awards policy is to encourage players to excel at the international level and elevate Pakistan’s standing in world sports.
