KARACHI: As the Champions Trophy is just around the corner, the scoreboard issue in Karachi’s National Stadium has sparked frustration among the fans.

The fans expressed displeasure with the setting of the scoreboard screen as it gets visible to only one side of the enclosures, which makes the scoreboard invisible to 50% of the spectators.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) completed the upgrade of the National Stadium ahead of the Champions Trophy, which included the construction of a new pavilion building on the University End, new fences, and the installation of two LED screens.

During the recent tri-nation series matches, the scoreboard was displayed only on the large LED screen, while the smaller screen was used for advertisements and replays, which created woes for fans facing the smaller screen to follow the score.

The matters worsened with jammers in place which hindered fans from accessing the live score through the internet.

The fans in enclosures on the left side of the old pavilion building named, Shahid Afridi, Wasim Akram, Asif Iqbal, and Waqar Hasan, fail to follow the score as only the smaller SMD Screen is visible to them.

One of the users shared his experience stating that he approached his family member on call to follow the score.

The cricket enthusiasts demanded the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to fix the scoreboard issue since a large section of the crowd was unable to be updated with the score even after paying thousands of rupees for tickets.

National Bank Cricket Stadium Karachi will host the first match of the tournament on February 19 (Wednesday) between Pakistan and New Zealand, which will be played after a brief opening ceremony.

The national stadium will host two more matches, including Afghanistan vs South Africa and South Africa vs England, on February 21 and March 1, respectively.
