Shahid Afridi, Haider Ali among other athletes selected for top national awards

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced the country’s highest national awards for sportsmen for their outstanding performance in various sports on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations.

Former national cricket team captain Shahid Afridi, along with other notable athletes, will receive prestigious awards for their remarkable contributions to sports.

Other Sitara-e-Imtiaz awardees include Shahroz Kashif (Mountaineer), Late Malik Muhammad Atta (Equestrian), Sana Mir (Former women’s cricketer), and Haider Ali (Discus throw para-athlete).

Squash player Hamza Khan, Shooter Mohsin Nawaz, and Tennis player Rashid Malik will receive the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Moreover, the Pride of Performance award will be conferred on Karate athlete Shahzeb Rind and Kabaddi player Muhammad Sajjad.

The award ceremony will be held on March 23 next year.
