NEW DELHI: Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill’s injury has worsened, as he will not be seen in action in the remaining matches of the year 2025.

Gill has already missed the second Test against South Africa due to a neck injury.

The team management says that they are not taking any hasty action regarding Gill’s fitness.

Gill retired injured while batting during the Kolkata Test and could not return to the field in the second innings. Rishabh Pant is captaining in his place in the Guwahati Test.

According to a report by the Times of India, Shubman Gill’s injury has turned out to be more serious than initially thought.

He is not only out of the ODI and T20 series against South Africa, but is also unlikely to return in any format throughout the year.

According to sources, Gill has a nerve injury, and he is being given injections and the rehabilitation process will begin in a few days.

Reports suggest that the team management is looking at the matter very carefully, keeping the 2026 T20 World Cup in mind.

A hasty decision could further damage the player’s fitness, so the management is adopting a cautious strategy.

Shubman Gill is likely to make a comeback in the home series against New Zealand in 2026. Team India will play three ODIs (from January 11) and five T20 matches (from January 21) in January, which will be India’s final preparations before the World Cup.
