In a surprising development, Indian cricket stalwart Virat Kohli has opted to withdraw from the first two tests against England, citing personal reasons, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday.

The 35-year-old batting maestro, with a remarkable record of nearly 9,000 runs in 113 test matches, has informed Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors about his decision.

In an official statement, the BCCI clarified, “Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors… certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention.”

The board also urged the media and fans to respect Kohli’s privacy during this time and refrained from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons.

India is set to host England in a highly anticipated five-match series, commencing on Thursday in Hyderabad. The England squad arrived at the venue on Monday, and Kohli’s absence from the initial tests adds an unexpected twist to the series dynamics. The cricket community wishes Virat Kohli the privacy and support he needs during this period.
