ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has introduced 5G services in 22 cities, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has reported.
The report was based on statements by PTAs’ officials made before the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications during a session presided over by Syed Amin Ul Haque.
According to the PTAs’ officials, Islamabad has seen its four sectors being provided with 5G services. Speed test in Sector F-8 showed internet speed of 100 Mbps. The officials stated that after the 5G spectrum auction, there will be an improvement in internet speed, with the help of which the average speed of 4G can reach 40 Mbps.
Despite the launch of 5G services, committee members expressed concerns regarding the quality of telecom services. In particular, member Sadiq Memon asked about the government’s strategy in order to improve mobile and internet connectivity, saying that even if 5G service or further development is introduced, it would have no result due to low service standards.
The PTAs’ officials admitted that prolonged load shedding of electricity kept affecting telecom networks. The officials said that telecom companies had problems coping with load shedding that lasted up to 10 hours.
