LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has announced a comprehensive ban on social media use for all teachers and officers. This move aims to ensure professionalism and maintain focus in the education sector, upholding the integrity of the education system and creating a distraction-free environment for both students and staff.

The decision follows directives from the federal government, prompting the department to issue an official notification. A letter outlining the new policy has been dispatched to the heads of all district education authorities across the province.

According to the notification, any teacher or officer found violating this ban by engaging in social media activity will face strict disciplinary action under the Punjab Government Rules of 1966.

In addition, this measure is deemed essential to maintain professional boundaries and prevent distractions that may compromise the quality of education.

The ban has sparked a debate among educators and officials, with some viewing it as a necessary step for maintaining professionalism.

Others, however, have expressed concerns over limitations on personal expression and the potential impact on teachers’ personal lives.

Despite these mixed reactions, the government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing the new policy across all educational institutions in the province.

Further instructions regarding the enforcement and monitoring of the ban are expected to be issued in the coming days.

This move is part of a broader effort to ensure focus and professionalism in the education sector, aligning with global trends emphasizing minimal digital distraction in educational settings.

By implementing this ban, the Punjab School Education Department seeks to prioritize students’ education and maintain a conducive learning environment.
