ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the meta platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook have been restored after the late night global outage.

The tech giant issued an apology for the disruption that precluded thousands of users from communicating on these platforms. Downdetector, a watchdog for site outages, took in thousands of reports of outages in WhatsApp and Instagram, with users from Asia, Europe, UK, and the US facing problems due to technical glitches.

Connectivity to WhatsApp and Instagram was lost at approximately 11:00 pm Pakistani time. Users took to other platforms, including X and Reddit, to air their complaints and express everything from annoyance to exasperation.

The company kept users abreast of the latest on the outage in terms of progress, assuring them that services were gradually coming back to normal. Meta took about three hours to resolve the issue and provide an update, which added, “And we’re back, happy chatting!”

This new outage would not be the first time that Meta’s platforms have gone down on a wider scale. Back in 2021, Facebook and other social services experienced over six hours of downtime, causing considerable disruption to user experiences across the globe.

Outages are especially notable for the popularity of Meta’s platforms, with WhatsApp serving over 2 billion monthly active users, Facebook boasting over 3 billion monthly active users, and Instagram having close to 2 billion monthly active users.
