WhatsApp web to support group voice, video calls

CALIFORNIA: WhatsApp is about to introduce the functionality of group calling via voice and video on its desktop version. This change will serve to make the browser more similar to the applications on mobile and desktop in terms of functionality.

The update will make it possible for users to initiate and participate in group calls from a web browser. Currently, WhatsApp Web allows video and audio calling for two people only.

This new development will eliminate this restriction and enable users to talk to more than one person at the same time without the need for the installation of other applications.

Moreover, users sharing or using computers in the office will benefit the most from this change. If the reports are true, users will be able to make group voice or video calls directly from group chats. In addition, they will receive a notification for the call in the browser and be able to join the call that is in progress immediately.

WhatsApp’s goal is to provide an uninterrupted experience, no matter what device is being used for communication. The feature is still in the works and has not yet been sent out to beta testers.

An official release date has yet to be announced by the company. Nevertheless, WhatsApp is still working on making all the features available on all its platforms.

The number of participants that will be allowed to join a WhatsApp Web group call might be the same as that of the mobile app, which is 32. However, the company might start with lower limits so as to be able to monitor the call and ensure it is of good quality.

When the update is finally out, it will complement the WhatsApp Web tool in terms of communication. The users will not only be able to have conversations via browsers but also enjoy the flexibility and comfort that come with it.
