Fact check: Is Punjab Food Authority being shut down?
LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has strongly denied the rumors about its closure that are doing the rounds on various social media platforms, calling them baseless and misleading.
The PFA spokesperson explained that the authority was still fully functional and performing its duties as an independent body with all its statutory powers still in place.
The spokesperson said the recent rebranding of the Price Control and Commodities Management Department to the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department has no effect on the existence or mandates of the authority.
The PFA continues to be very active in safeguarding food quality and consumer health throughout the province.
Looking forward, in 2026, the PFA intends to further strengthen its efforts against adulteration of foods.
New online monitoring portals have been established for better monitoring of the safety of dairy and meat products, as well as water.
Moreover, the food safety and inspection systems have also been digitized to increase transparency and efficiency.
Food safety teams would continue their work in the field, wearing uniforms and body cameras for transparent and documented operations.
He said that the Punjab Food Authority is fully empowered through the law, and it would continue taking decisive action against adulteration of food items and counterfeit food mafia throughout the region.
