Spanish woman fired for arriving too early in office
ALICANTE: A Spanish woman was fired from her company for arriving at work too early, after which the employee filed a lawsuit in court.
According to the report, the young woman had a habit of arriving at the office between 6:45 and 7:00 a.m., even though her contract required her to start work at 7:30 a.m., so she would start work before her colleagues, which the boss did not like.
The woman was first warned about this behavior in 2023, but she continued to come to the office very early without complying. Earlier this year, the boss fired her for serious misconduct.
The owner said that because she arrived so early, the employee had no work and was not contributing to the company. The employee challenged this decision and filed an appeal with the Social Court of Alicante.
The court ruled in favor of the owner, saying that the employee ignored repeated warnings and that her behavior was negatively impacting the relationship between the employee and the owner.
The court said in its ruling that the employee’s behavior affected the relationship of trust and loyalty, and that this behavior was considered serious enough to justify termination of employment.
