ISLAMABAD: A new round of frosty winds has significantly increased the level of coldness in various regions of Pakistan, with main cities, such as Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, experiencing temperatures below normal.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) anticipates that this wave of cold will persist for some time, while in the meantime, smog and fog will continue to contribute to overall public inconvenience.

The cold weather has a minimum temperature of 4°C in Lahore. The PMD also stated that the current cold front is going to last until the 18th of January. Increased humidity in the city to a staggering 98 percent is making the cold more unpleasant, and very light winds of around 5 km/h are still blowing.

There will be no rain for the next several days. The air quality in Lahore has reached very severe levels with a total AQI of 189; thus, the city is in fourth position in the list of the most polluted cities worldwide.

To keep all the residents’ health in good condition, medical practitioners are recommending that non-essential outdoor activities be avoided. Due to the cold winds blowing from the northeast, Karachi has also reported a significant temperature drop. The thermometer is going to show between 10°C and 12°C as the two days of further decrease in temperature are approaching.

Meteorologists explained that cold air coming from Quetta has all along had a say in the weather of Karachi and that the temperature might even drop more by Saturday or Sunday.

But today, the highest temperature will still likely be between 24°C and 26°C. The humidity level in Karachi is 45 percent, while the AQI reading for the city suggests air quality is unhealthy. Besides, Karachi is in the 10th spot on the list of the world’s most polluted cities with the level of particulate matter at 139.
