QUETTA: The Balochistan Meteorological Department has issued a new rain forecast as the winter season grips Pakistan.
Authorities informed that a strong system of western winds is likely to bring the first significant period of winter rains from December 6 to 10.
Meteorologists predict that the months will see scattered showers. They explained that the incoming system could relieve drought conditions in Zhob, Sherani, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Lasbela, Awarande, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Qila Saifullah, Chagai, Noshki, Washuk, and Mastung.
Some areas may receive heavy rainfall, while snowy precipitation is likely to accumulate at high altitudes. Experts affirmed that north–western winds are tentatively considered more active this year, and persistent moisture from the Arabian Sea will encourage an extended period of rainy conditions.
They added that rains may also assist in replenishing dams, groundwater levels across the province. The forecast has raised some cautious optimism among farmers and rural communities, as farmers and rural communities are facing a serious water shortage.
In various places, villagers gathered in mosques to offer voluntary begging prayers for relief and replenishment to their water supply.
The Met Department warns the public to stay vigilant, especially in locations near streams and seasonal water channels. Officials warned that heavy rain could produce flash flooding. Balochistan continues to experience a long–lasting drought, and 12 districts are listed as in severe drought conditions.
