Monsoon rains likely to start from June 19 in Pakistan; Details inside

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted on Tuesday the first spell of monsoon rain to hit parts of the country after June 19, according to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz.

He noted that southern Sindh, including Karachi, is expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Sarfaraz stated that there is no probability of rain in the plains on Eid al Adha, with a more specific prognosis being issued ahead of the spell.

The PMD’s weekly weather forecast predicts hot and dry weather in most parts of Pakistan, with very hot conditions in central and southern plains. Partly cloudy weather with light rain or thunderstorms is expected in isolated areas of Gilgit-Baltistan during the evening and night.

Last month, Pakistan endured a severe heat wave, with temperatures in southern Sindh reaching up to 50 degrees Celsius. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned that the heat wave would continue in parts of Sindh and Punjab in June.

Yesterday, the PMD anticipated the temperatures to gradually rise, with the provincial capital experiencing a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius today. The met department also forecasted a potential increase in temperature to 46 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

In Karachi, residents experienced some relief on June 7 when drizzle brought temperatures down slightly. Areas that received light showers included Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, and Gulistan-e-Johar, as well as Surjani Town, Scheme 33, Hawksbay, Baldia Town, Maripur, and Nazimabad.
