Rain, thunderstorm expected from next week

ISLAMABAD: It is predicted to rain and accompany thunderstorms with snow in the mountains in the coming week. A westerly-wave system is likely to approach the Western parts of the country from the night of the 29th December, and intensify from the 30th December, which is likely to engulf most of the top/central parts on the 31st December, and continue to linger in the top parts till the morning of the 2nd January, 2026.

Under the influence of this weather system:

Balochistan & Sindh: Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snow falls on hills would occur in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gawader, Jiwani, Lasbella, Kech, Awaran, Chagi, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, and Kharan from the night of 29th December to the 31st December. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain-wind/thunderstorm (moderate to heavy snowfalls in elevated areas): Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu.

Gilgit Baltistan / Kashmir: Rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated snowfalls is foreseen in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) during 30th December (evening/night) to 2nd January (morning), with episodic breaks.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfalls is expected in Murree and Galliyat from 30th December From the evening/night to the morning of 2nd January, with occasional gaps, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Potohar region, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujrat from 31st December to 1st January, and in Mianwali, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Khushab, Noorpurthal, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Sahiwal on 31st December.
